Canon Hong Kong Actively Supports Lai See Recycling, Reuse and Food Donation to Create a Green and Inclusive Society
The Chinese New Year is a traditional festival filled with love and care. During this festive period, Canon Hongkong Company Limited (Canon Hong Kong) actively participates in red packet recycling and food donation activities, wishing all colleagues and the public to embrace the festivity in a greener way and to build a better environment and to foster a sustainable community.
Canon Hong Kong supports Greeners Action's “Lai See Reuse and Recycle Program” for the 14th consecutive year, together with Canon Engineering Hong Kong (CEHK) and Canon Electronic Business Machines (CEBM), encouraging employees and families to recycle red packets. Greeners Action started the program in 2009, with an accumulative collection of 92 million red packets and over 2,700 tons of carbon emissions reduced. Aiming at advocating the public to reuse red packets and reduce waste, the program was actively promoted both online and offline through various channels.
As one of the sponsors, we have set up multiple collection boxes in our office to facilitate employee participation in this meaningful activity. In the end, we successfully collected over 6,500 red packets for recycling. Greeners Action will process the collected red packets through the sheltered workshop run by social welfare organizations, turning them into “Reborn Lai See” for free distribution to the public in the following year.
This year also marks the 7th consecutive year that Canon Hong Kong has organized a food donation activity. While celebrating the festival, we also remembered to share food resources with those in need. Canon Hong Kong was pleased to collaborate once again with Food Grace, participating in their "Blessing Across the City" (膳心貫全城) New Year gift box and food recycling campaign. Upholding the spirit of cherishing food and benefiting the community during the festival, they collected surplus festive food or items such as rice, noodles, canned food, and cereals, which were then donated to those in need or welfare organizations. Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of our colleagues, with an even more passionate response than in previous years, we collectively donated 1,000 bags of rice and over 170 various types of food, breaking past records. Additionally, colleagues had the chance to personally deliver the collected items to the elderly in Kwai Tsing district, spreading love and warmth to the community and making the charitable act extraordinarily meaningful.
