Canon Hong Kong Corporate Volunteer Team continued the service momentum of Meal Boxes Packing with Food Angel
Canon Hongkong Company Limited (Canon Hong Kong) Corporate Volunteer Team continued the service momentum of Meal Boxes Packing with Food Angel at Harvest Mill in Kwun Tong on 1 July for the second time after the first collaboration in January.
Led by Mr. Kazuhiro Ozawa, President & CEO of Canon Hong Kong, there were 8 Canon Hong Kong Corporate Volunteer Team members joined the service together. Within a short period of 2 hours, the team delivered strong team-work spirit and prepared a total of 2,853 delicious meals and soups.
Mr. Ozawa mentioned after the service, “Hong Kong has always given me the impression of a prosperous city. However, since I came to Hong Kong to take my new post, I discovered that our volunteer team regularly worked with different charitable organizations to distribute meal boxes, which reflects the challenge of poverty facing grassroots and their urgent need of receiving food assistance. It is truly a profound experience for me. Although our volunteer team worked only a small part of the meal preparation, we tried our best to extend a helping hand to those in need of food assistance in a practical way.”
All the meal boxes prepared in the service were frozen instantly after packaging and become “cook-chill” meals, which will be sent and stored in the “Automated Food Dispenser” set up at various districts to meet the dietary needs of different people and allow a flexible collection of meals especially for those with irregular working hours, to share love and care with them more flexibly. After obtaining the cook-chill meals, they can simply reheat the meal box and enjoy hygienically and conveniently.
Food Angel program was launched in 2011 by Bo Charity Foundation with the mission of "Waste Not, Hunger Not, With Love", to serve the underprivileged with surplus food from the communities with nutritious meals or food packs. From the information provided by Food Angel website, the organization rescues 45 tonnes of edible surplus food each week, producing over 20,000 nutritious meals and helps distribute over 11,000 other meals and food packs daily free of charge for people who are in need. The ideology aligns with Canon’s corporate philosophy “Kyosei”, to contribute to the well-being of mankind by living and working together sustainably.
