Canon Hong Kong supported the Plantation Enrichment Program to arrange Tree Planting Day for the 3rd time
Canon Hongkong Co., Ltd. (Canon HK) has been actively promoting environmental protection in all aspects, and has been the corporate partner of “The Green Earth” (TGE), the local environmental group since 2017. With the good partnership over the years, Canon HK regularly organized environmental workshops and green volunteer services to promote the low-carbon lifestyle and encourage staff to get closer to nature together. One of the signature activities is “Plantation Enrichment Program” which has been supported by Canon HK Corporate Volunteer Team since 2018, allowing staff to participate in tree planting activities and contribute to the sustainability of Hong Kong country parks.
This year’s tree planting day was held on 23 April at Tai Lam Country Park which was the 3rd time to arrange. In addition to the volunteers from Canon HK, volunteers from Canon Engineering Hong Kong Co., Ltd. (CEHK) and Canon Electronic Business Machines (H.K.) Co., Ltd. (CEBM) were invited to join the service together. A total of 38 volunteers joined including Mr. Kazuhiro Ozawa, President & CEO of Canon HK & Mr. Keiichi Wakabayashi, President of CEBM. Every volunteer brought a shovel and 4-5 seedlings to the designed planting site along the Yuen Tuen Country Trail. Under the professional supervision of TGE staff, the volunteers planted and irrigated 160 local species seedlings. Through planting the native seedlings to establish the native woodland together, the biodiversity ecological values of the country park will be enriched for the provision of different food and ideal habitats for wildlife species.
After the service, Mr. Ozawa said, ‘Tree planting is a very meaningful environmental activity, but it requires input of resources including manpower & time around the clock. I am glad that the activity has been run for the 3rd time and I am touched by the selfless contribution from the volunteer team. I would also like to express my respect to all the tree care workers!’ Mr. Wakabayashi also agreed with Mr. Ozawa’s and added, ‘Participating in volunteer activities not only bestow to the community, but also connect employees from different division together to enhance their intimacy and improve their teamwork which is a win-win-win reaction.’
The Canon HK Corporate Volunteer Team supported the “Plantation Enrichment Program” in 2018, 2021 & 2023 respectively which mobilized 105 volunteers and planting 460 local seedlings in Clearwater Bay Country Park and Tai Lam Country Park.
