Canon Hong Kong Volunteer Team Supports Hiking Trail Clean Up for the 2nd consecutive year
Since the epidemic begins in 2020, hiking and camping have become one of the popular leisure activities for many people in Hong Kong, more and more citizens fall in loves the natural scenery of Hong Kong. However, as the number of visitors increases, the amount of trash left behind inevitably increases as well. As a result, outdoor etiquette like “Leave No Trace” & “Take Your Litter Home” is getting more & more attention.
The Green Earth (TGE), the green partner of Canon Hongkong Company Limited (Canon Hong Kong), is committed to raise public awareness of countryside litter problem and educate the public on the importance of outdoor etiquette through organizing the countryside cleanup activity “Green Hero Challenge”. For the second year in a row, Canon Hong Kong formed the volunteer service team to participate in the event which aimed to clean up Hong Kong’s hiking trails with collective efforts while practicing the outdoor etiquette.
On 5 Feb, 20 volunteers from Canon Hong Kong, Canon Electronic Business Machines (H.K.) Co., Ltd. (CEBM) and Canon Engineering Hong Kong Co., Ltd. (CEHK) joined the clean up service at Shek Lung Kung Hiking Trail in Tai Mo Shan Country Park. The weather was good and suitable for hiking. Under the supervision of TGE staff, the team hiked along the 6.5km route and equipped with trash collection equipment including hand gloves, clips and trash bags. After four hours service, over 15 kg of trash was collected and categorized, mostly tissue paper, cigarette butts, fruit peels & food packaging. The Team was happy to help and preserve the nature beauty together.
