Canon Hong Kong held Tree Planting Day contributing to the Sustainable Development of Country Park in Hong Kong
Canon Hongkong Co., Ltd. (Canon HK) has always been committed to environmental conservation. Since 2018, CHK has collaborated with "The Green Earth" to participated in the "Plantation Enrichment Project" launched by The Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department and held Tree Planting Day and Tree Caring Day to contribute the sustainable development of country parks in Hong Kong.
This year, Canon HK Corporate Volunteer Team joined hands with “The Green Earth” for the second time again to hold the Tree Planting Day on 17 April 2021. Each volunteer carried the seedlings and the planting tools along the trail to the planting area in Tai Lam Country Park. With the professional guidance of The Green Earth staff, our team planted and irrigated 130 local species seedlings. Through planting the native seedlings to establish the native woodland together, the biodiversity ecological values of the country park will be enriched for the provision of different food and ideal habitats for wildlife species.
About Plantation Enrichment Project
After decades of extensive tree planting, the planting strategy of Hong Kong country parks has adjusted from planting exotic pioneer tree species for soil erosion control and landscape improvement to enhancement of the ecological value and biodiversity of the woodland. After time, the pioneer tree species are facing problems of aging and lack of growing space. As a result, The Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department launched the “Plantation Enrichment Project” in 2009 to thin out the aged exotic tree species, plant native tree seedlings and carry out post-planting maintenance work which requires the investment of several years for enrichment work. Since 2016, The Green Earth has joined the project as one of the participating NGOs to establish native woodlands.
