    Canon’s sustainability efforts rewarded with top 5% Gold rating from France-based global sustainability ratings organisation EcoVadis

    HONG KONG, 7 March 2025 — Canon Inc. announced that the company has been awarded the Gold rating for its sustainability efforts by France-based global sustainability ratings organisation EcoVadis. The award places the Canon Group within the top 5% of companies accessed globally.

    EcoVadis assesses over 150,000 companies spanning 185 countries and 250 industries according to various criteria across the four themes of “Environment,” “Labour & Human Rights,” “Ethics” and “Sustainable Procurement.” As worldwide scrutiny of corporate sustainability efforts increases, companies around the world now take into consideration the EcoVadis rating of potential clients and partners. In the recent assessment, the Canon Group received high marks overall. This is the eighth year in which the Canon Group has received the Gold rating.

    Canon’s initiatives for sustainability

    Canon is working to strengthen initiatives related to environmental and social issues in order to achieve a sustainable society.

    As part of its environmental initiatives, Canon positions Climate Change, Resource Efficiency, Chemical Substances and Biodiversity as key issues and develops initiatives linked with its business activities throughout the entire product lifecycle. As an environmental target, since 2008, the company has been working to achieve an annual average improvement of 3% in lifecycle CO2 emissions per product. As a result, since then it has achieved an average annual improvement rate of 3.95% (2008-2023) and an accumulated improvement of 44.4% during that period. Canon also aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 through various activities including energy conservation activities at its manufacturing sites, implementing initiatives for reuse and recycling of products, and utilising recycled materials.

    Furthermore, Canon respects the human rights of all stakeholders involved in its business activities, including employees and business partners. Based on the “Canon Group Human Rights Policy,” Canon implements human rights due diligence throughout the entire Group and carries out activities to spread awareness among all Group employees both in Japan and overseas. In this way, Canon is committed to strengthening its initiatives to protect the dignity and rights of people and fulfilling its corporate social responsibility within the supply chain and honouring its RBA Code of Conduct1 as a member of the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA), an industry coalition dedicated to ensuring socially responsible global supply chains.
