HONG KONG, 13th December, 2023 — Canon officially launched the ultra compact and affordable Ultra-wide Angle zoom lens RF-S10-18mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM which is designed for APS-C EOS R-series camera. This ultra-wide-angle 10-18mm (16-29mm equivalent.) zoom lens allows photographers to shoot with a wider angle of view. Equipped with image stabilization (IS), this compact and lightweight lens offers high image quality at a reasonable price, providing next-generation content creators and photo amateurs a great option for vlogging, travel, and landscape shooting.
Compact Ultra-wide Angle
With the addition of the RF-S10-18mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM, the first ultra-wide-angle zoom lens in the RF-S series, the RF-S series lens family is further expanded. RF-S10-18mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM is compatible with all EOS-R Series Cameras[1] with a focal length equivalent to approx. 16-29mm in 35mm full-frame format[2]. It captures a wider angle of view than standard kit lens for landscape and cityscape, or shooting in tight places. For portrait shooting, with a 7-blade circular aperture, allows users to create stunning photos with impressive bokeh, foreground and background can be blurred softly and significantly to make people stand out. It can also make selfies easy by including the background at the same time, making this lens ideal for travel or vlogging. RF-S10-18mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM is an extreme compact and lightweight ultra-wide angle zoom lens which only weights 150g and measures 44.9mm in length when in retracted position, allowing it to be stored compactly simply by turning the zoom ring for outstanding portability. Its lightweight also allows long period handheld shooting without fatigue during vlogging.
Excellent Image Quality
RF-S10-18mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM’s compactness and high image quality is contributed by the newly developed 12 elements in 10 groups optical design with an effective placed PMo aspherical lenses. It also has helped to achieve a high level of rendering capability while also minimizing the number of elements in the lens configuration. Furthermore, the two Ultra-Low Dispersion (UD) lens elements with low refraction and low dispersion, the chromatic aberrations is corrected throughout the entire zoom range, to deliver higher image quality. Besides, It also incorporates the user-friendly “Focus/Control Ring”[3] which user can easily switch from camera’s menu between Focus Ring operation or Control Ring operation such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed or exposure compensation adjustment.
Unique Wide-angle Close-ups
RF-S10-18mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM’s 0.14 m closest focusing distance throughout the entire focal range allow it to take close-ups of small objects with background details, which achieves a maximum magnification of up to 0.23x when autofocus is enabled. You can also see the unique perspective when you can go up-close with an ultra-wide angle lens at a 10mm focal length, a stunning 0.5x max. magnifications and 0.086m min. focus distance can be achieved with Manual Focus at 10mm.
Perfect for travel and vlogging with outstanding video quality
The RF-S10-18mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM delivers sharper, steadier images even in low light condition. With built-in Optical Image Stabilizer (Optical IS), camera shake can be reduced by up to 4 shutter speed stops’ equivalent[4], so images are less likely to be blurry even when the shutter speed slows. When used with compatible cameras that have In-Body Image Stabilizer, the Coordinated Control IS achieves up to 6 stops[5] of image stabilization, perfect for those handheld low-light shots that usually require a tripod. For video shooting, Optical IS coordinates with in-camera Movie Digital IS to achieve steady, natural footage for shooting while walking, so you can film your travel vlog with minimal equipment. The RF-S10-18mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM is also compatible with Focus Breathing Correction[6] during movie shooting, it addresses the “pulsing effect” by compensating for the change in field of view when the focus point is changed, resulting in seamless video recording. The lens is also equipped with Canon’s unique Leadscrew type STM and rear focusing system for high-speed AF and smooth Movie AF, providing a smooth and quiet autofocus operation that is especially useful during movie recording.

[1] Multiple exposure shooting is not supported on EOS R5/R6/R/Ra/RP, it is also not possible to shoot multiple exposures with another lens using images shot with this lens. The lens distortion correction on the camera is set to [Enable] automatically when in use.
