“Canon x McDull Inter-school Ink Cartridge Recycling Competition”

Canon Hongkong Company Limited (Canon HK) organized the 8th Canon x McDull Inter-school Ink Cartridge Recycling Award Presentation Ceremony at Canon Head Office on 29th June 2019, to recognize the outstanding performance of 10 winning schools in the competition. Two winning schools were invited to perform at the ceremony, including CCC Kei Wai Primary School (Ma Wan) and Kowloon Tong School (Primary Section). Instant Photo Shoot & Print Corner with McDull was also offered for all winning schools, followed by exclusive Banner and Canon Creative Park Workshops, all participants had an enjoyable afternoon through experiencing banner creation and 3D paper crafting.

In line with Canon’s corporate philosophy “Kyosei”, Canon HK advocates a green product lifecycle in every process of our operations. Since 2009, Canon HK launched “Ink Cartridge Recycling Programme” and invited the famous cartoon character “McDull” as the Programme’s ambassador. Currently Canon HK has placed over 290 recycling boxes for collecting empty ink cartridges.

Canon believes the young generation group definitively plays an important role towards ‘sustainable development’. In 2011, Canon HK has extended the Ink Cartridge Recycling Program to the education sector and organized “Canon x McDull Inter-school Ink Cartridge Recycling Competition” to encourage active participation of primary and secondary schools. In order to further promote the concept of recycling in all-rounded perspectives among schools, Canon HK partnering with Business Environment Council co-arranged 25 sessions of “Environmental Seminar” for the participating schools.

In the academic year of 2018-19, a total of 236 schools joined the Competition”, with over 7,300 ink cartridges being collected and recycled. As of June 2019, over 200,000 pcs of ink cartridges has been collected with over 4.8 tons of plastics recycled under the Programme. This helped to reduce over 7.3 tons of CO2 emission which requires 317 trees to absorb in a year.
