Canon Hong Kong First Participated in Urban Farming Experience at Ma Wan 1868

Urban farming reconnects land, food, and community, allowing people in busy city life to stay close to nature and explore the possibilities of sustainable living. Located at the new tourism landmark Ma Wan 1868, Farm The City offers a vibrant green space where the public can experience urban farming firsthand. On 16 May, Canon Hongkong Company Limited (Canon Hong Kong) partnered with The Green Earth for the first time to host the “Urban Farming Experience at Ma Wan 1868”, bringing this concept to life and advancing green practices.

A corporate volunteer team of 24 colleagues from Canon Hong Kong, Canon Engineering Hong Kong Co., Ltd. and Canon Electronic Business Machines (H.K.) Co., Ltd. participated in the activity. Guided by local farmers, they visited Farm The City, which cultivates over 80 varieties of herbs, flowers, fruits, and trees, demonstrating how urban farming enhances biodiversity and soil health, reduces pests and strengthens food system resilience even in limited spaces. Volunteers not only deepened their understanding of organic plants and farming practices but also enjoyed the unique pleasure of harvesting and tasting fresh produce.

The volunteers then planted water spinach seedlings and harvested seasonal vegetables including green beans, eggplants, Chinese chives, and chili. They were able to bring home the day’s harvest and seedlings to share the authentic flavors of local produce with their families. Participants showed great enthusiasm for this experience, fostering environmental awareness while supporting local agriculture and encouraging greener lifestyles.

Canon Hong Kong believes that every effort helps pave the way toward a greener future. We will continue to honor its environmental commitments through concrete actions, participating in more green initiatives to bring vitality to the city and help build a better, sustainable society.
