Canon Hong Kong Organized Two Blood Donation Days and

Invited All Local Canon Companies to Join This Year

The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) is managed by the Hospital Authority and it is the only public institution providing blood to all hospitals, public and private, to ensure an adequate and safe blood supply in Hong Kong.

Since there is no substitute for blood and the supply of blood relies entirely on the goodwill of voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors, Canon Hongkong Company Limited (Canon HK) has arranged two Blood Donation Days, and invited Canon Engineering Hong Kong Company Limited (CEHK) & Canon Electronic Business Machines (H.K.) Company Limited (CEBM), to join and support in head office on 1 March & 4 July this year. A total of 84 packs of qualified blood have been donated to the BTS. This encouraging result would not have been possible to achieve without their selfless contributions.

    Why Donate Blood?

In order to provide fresh blood products for treatments of patients with chronic diseases or in need of surgery due to illness or accident, BTS relied on the generosity of the blood donors to donate on a continuous basis.

The collected blood will be processed into its components, followed by stringent tests for infectious diseases and bacteria before being used in various treatments. Every single donation can help 3 or more patients, so please do not underestimate your contribution.

On 1 March & 4 July this year, we are grateful to have all local Canon companies to join and support the Blood Donation Days, to help more people in need.

To ensure blood transfusion to be therapeutically effective for patients, the quality and safety of blood products are of paramount importance.

Cheer Up Teams formed by CEHK and CEBM.

Through continuous surveillance of local and overseas infection outbreaks; new measures of donor screening and infection control procedures, BTS has kept the risk of transfusion-transmitted infection to the minimum.

Canon HK Corporate Communications Division has tried to encourage more colleagues to join and support.

Promotional messages were places everywhere in office, to enhance colleagues’ awareness on non-remunerated blood donation.
