Canon Hong Kong Received Two Prestigious Awards at the Ming Pao ESG Awards for Two Consecutive Years

With the instabilities and challenges brought by extreme weather in recent years, the concept of sustainable development has received urgent attention, and the "Environmental, Social and Governance" (ESG) performance of companies has become increasingly important, regarded as the key indicator reflecting the brand image, long-term value and high-quality development. Canon Hongkong Company Limited (Canon Hong Kong) has been repeatedly recognized for outstanding achievement in the field of ESG. We are proud to receive two awards in the "Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance Awards" of Ming Pao for two consecutive years, bringing home 2024 “Award for Excellence in ESG” and “Elite of Sustainability Performance Award”.

Mr. Kazuhiro Ozawa, President and CEO of Canon Hong Kong, shared at the award ceremony "We are truly honored to receive the prestigious awards for two consecutive years, and our commitment to advocating high standards of ESG practices has earned the support and recognition from organizers and partners. Adhering to Canon's corporate philosophy “Kyosei”, we firmly believe that business development is closely related to social well-being. Thus, we insist on conducting business activities in an inflated and fair manner, and actively respond to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations, such as climate change, natural disasters, eliminating poverty and inequality, to create a diverse and harmonious society with different stakeholders. The awards also serve as a motivation for us to keep improving our ESG practices, making a positive impact to the community and shaping a greener future for the next generation.”

Canon Hong Kong has always taken up the responsibility of promoting sustainable development. Since 2009, we launched the "Ink Cartridge Recycling Program" and placed more than 300 ink cartridge recycling boxes in various districts across Hong Kong. In order to cultivate children's environmental awareness, the program was extended to the education sector in 2011 with the annual " Canon x McDull Inter-school Ink Cartridge Recycling Competition" for primary and secondary school students. The program was a huge success, with over 276,000 ink cartridges collected, more than 6.3 tons of plastics recycled and over 9.5 tons of CO2 emissions reduced over the years, equivalent to the amount absorbed by 414 trees annually.

In addition, the Canon Hong Kong Corporate Volunteer Team was established in 2015 and has served more than 9,000 hours in total. It has actively participated in various kinds of CSR and environmental activities, such as blood donation, fundraising or food donations, meal packing and distribution to single-living elderly and the underprivileges, Imaging for Fun photo shoot & print workshops, tree planting, hiking trail clean up and remove overgrown weeds in Mai Po Nature Reserve, contributing to both community and natural ecosystem conservation. Starting from 2022, we released the annual "Corporate Social Responsibility Report", which comprehensively covered Canon Hong Kong's commitment and measures in driving sustainable development. We also entrusted third-party consultant to independently verify the carbon emission data and continuously improved the level of disclosure and transparency.

The Ming Pao ESG Awards, jointly organized by the Ming Pao Newspaper and the Institute of ESG and Benchmark, aim to recognize Hong Kong enterprises that demonstrate outstanding ESG performance and make positive contributions to society.
