HONG KONG, 20th December, 2023 — Canon officially launched The World’s First Super-telephoto zoom lens for mirrorless camera with a telephoto end of 800mm[1] RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM. Despite its advanced zooming spec of 200-800mm, the lens is relatively lightweight for a telephoto lens, weighing only 2,050g. Its lightweight allows photographers more convenient and comfortable handheld shooting. RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM delivers a flexible 200-800mm zoom range, that allows for both closeups and long shot expressions in the telephoto range. RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM has incredible power to pull even small subjects right into the frame, bringing far away subjects close, it is best for advanced amateurs to explore birds, wildlife, outdoor sports photography.

    Super Telephoto, Reach Further
RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM is the World’s First Super-telephoto zoom lens for mirrorless camera with a telephoto end of 800mm, providing a 4x zoom range from 200mm to 800mm. This allows for both closeup-shot and long-shot expressions without the need of switching lenses, making composition more flexible. Its 800mm focal length is effective for shooting wild birds, wild animals, airplanes, motorsports, and outdoor sports, which are difficult to get close to because of the distance to the subjects. This lens meets the needs of photo amateurs who want to get a little closer to their subjects and capture their details with greater clarity.

Furthermore, RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM is compatible with Extender RF1.4x and 2x at all focal length, which extends the focal length by 1.4 times to 280-1120mm and 2 times to 400-1600mm respectively. Autofocus is possible even with Extender RF1.4x or RF2x attached. RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM also offers superior close-up shooting performance, it provides a 0.8m minimum focusing distance at 200mm with 0.25x maximum magnification, and a 0.20x maximum magnification at 800mm with 3.3m minimum focusing distance, allowing users to focus on close-up objects with ease.

    Lightweight & Compact
Despite the nature of its 200-800mm super-telephoto zoom lens, RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM weights only approx. 2,050g for comfortable handheld shooting through a series of weight reduction measures. It employs an optimized optical configuration and uses a variable-length zoom type that takes advantage of the RF Mount’s short back focus. The lens features a telescoping first lens group to realize 4x zoom and shorten its overall length, it is only approx. 314.1mm in length at 200mm, providing excellent mobility to the lens. To facilitate handheld shooting, RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM features Optical Image Stabilizer that offers up to 5.5-stop[2] powerful shake compensation. Users can shoot handheld at super telephoto focal length with confidence.

RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM is equipped with Nano USM (Ultrasonic Motor), Canon’s proprietary actuator that contributes to the downsizing of lenses. Thanks to its compact yet ample torque performance and rear focusing design, it achieves comfortable high-speed AF similar to that of Ring USM as well as smooth Movie Servo AF. Electronic Full Time Manual Focus[3] during One-Shot or Servo AF is also supported.

    Outstanding Image Quality
In order to maintain high image quality at any zoom range, RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM is equipped with a multi-group zooming configuration that moves all zoom lens groups except stabilizer optic lens group. Fluctuation of optical performance is suppressed in all zoom ranges, resulting in high-resolution image. Its 17 elements in 11 groups optical design includes 3 UD lenses to correct axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration of magnification throughout the entire zoom range and delivers crisp clear image with minimal color bleeding. RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM also features renowned Super Spectra Coating and optimized shapes of lens elements help to improve anti-ghosting and flare performance.

    L Lens-Class Operability & Reliability
As RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM is primarily designed for outdoor use, white paint that suppresses temperature rise due to sunlight is employed. It also features high level of durability and shock resistance with dust-and-water-resistant design[4] equivalent to that of L-series lenses for more reliable outdoor shootings.

RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM also shows no compromises on operability, it features 2 Lens Function (L-Fn) Buttons at the top and left of the lens. In addition to the default [AF OFF] function, various shooting functions related to AF, exposure and control can also be customized to personal preferences. It also incorporates a Focusing/Control Ring with “Focus mode / Control Selector” switch for easy switching the function between Focusing Ring and Control Ring, it also makes fast switching between auto focus and manual focus possible without going into camera menu.

    Other Features:

    • 9-blade circular aperture delivers beautiful and soft background blur
    • Compatible with Focus Breathing Correction[5] during movie shooting
    • Bundled with Lens Strap 40 for easy carrying of the lens and Lens Hood ET-101 that further enhances flare resistance
