Canon Hong Kong calls for Lai See Reuse and Recycle, also Food Donation to bring a Greener Lunar New Year
Lunar New Year is a traditional festival to share love and care among families and societies. Canon Hongkong Co., Ltd. (Canon Hong Kong) wishes all colleagues to embrace the festivity in a greener way and supports the Red Packet Recycling and Food Donation programs to foster sustainable communities.
Canon Hong Kong joined Greeners Action in the “Lai See Reuse and Recycle Program” for the 13th consecutive year, encouraging colleagues in different Canon group companies to participate including Canon Engineering Hongkong (CEHK) and Canon Electronic Business Machines (CEBM). Greeners Action started the program in 2009, with an accumulative collection of 67 million red packets sorted and re-packed as "Reborn Lai See" and distributed to the public for reuse. As usual, the program has been widely promoted through online and offline channels to enhance public awareness of red packets recycling and waste reduction, with over 400 public collection points across Hong Kong and banners widely distributed in various means of public transport such as tram, bus, and MTR stations. The accomplishments were truly encouraging with a total of 12 million red packets being recycled and 4 million more than the previous year. As one of the sponsors, Canon Hong Kong actively encouraged our colleagues to support the program and collected over 7,500 pieces of red packets, making a significant contribution.
In addition, this year also marks the 6th consecutive year for Canon Hong Kong to arrange the Food Donation program and benefit the people in need by effective distribution of food resources. We were honored to join the “FOOD-CO Save and Share Program” organized by St. James' Settlement, aiming to reduce food waste and allocate food surplus to serve the low-income group, unemployed, and homeless, with a wish list of collection items including rice, noodles, canned food, cereal, etc. With the overwhelming support from our colleagues, over 590 food items were collected and donated.
