Passionate sports events always attracted professional photographers, which drives Canon to join different sporting events to provide professional imaging support. The 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou is one of the greatest sports events in recent years, and Canon is glad to be the Official Sponsor company.
Professional event support from Canon Professional Services team
Approximately 64%1 of cameras used by press photographers among the 19th Asian Games are Canon-brand equipment which is a great proportion. To achieve “zero downtime” for them, Canon provided prompt maintenance and repairs to photographers at the Canon Professional Services (CPS) booth in the Main Media Center and at the Hangzhou Quick Repair Center. The professional team contains 43 members which come from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hangzhou, and they provide loaning, repairing, firmware updating, maintenance, cleaning and other services for Canon cameras and lenses. The services were available for the registered photographers from 23 September to 8 October ran from 8:00a.m. to 11:00 p.m., 15 hours a day non-stop, covering the entire Asian Games event. To provide best equipment services to all journalists and photographers from various Asian countries and region, CPS also provide services in three languages.
Equipment Loan Service for the best performance
Registered photographers of 19th Asian Games are entitled to borrow Canon’s image products free of charge for a 24-hour loan period without appointment. A full range of Canon’s products are prepared for those professionals, including EOS R series and RF lenes, EF lenses also L lenses. The loan list included flagship full frame DSLR camera, the EOS-1D X Mark III to mirrorless camera EOS R3, also RF and EF lenses which cover all range that photojournalists need.
For video broadcasting, Canon prepares a series of Ultra HD, 4K and 8K broadcast lenses and professional digital camcorder the XF605 among the venues. With seven lenses in the 4K broadcast-quality portable lens "CJ Series", one lens each in the HD broadcast-quality "HJ Series", 1.25-inch bayonet-adapted "8K Broadcast Lens Series" and 1.25-inch bayonet mount "8K Broadcast Lens Series". The CJ Series of HD professional portable lenses, included the CJ45e×(9.7B) IASE-V H 4K which feature high magnification zoom and long focal lengths, providing remarkable video shooting quality for the photojournalists.
CPS also provided technical support for image processing, with the help of the Neural network Image Processing Tool and the Neural network Upscaling Tool, professional photographers can make their work better with shorter processing time. The Neural network Image Processing Tool is an image processing tool using deep learning technology which can achieve high quality noise reduction, color compensation and optical optimization of lenses. For Neural network Upscaling Tool, it is an intelligent software that can convert images to a higher resolution than original resolution, providing more pixels for large format printing.
Printing support with high quality printers
Besides image products, Canon produce high-quality printing and copying machines for years and it is another great asset to contribute to the Asian Games. Canon Professional teams set up printing service support among stadiums, venues, event headquarters, operations centers, hotels, and other facilities to provide paperwork support. To ensure staff who support the events have sufficient knowledge about the usage of the products, Canon provides product training support for them before the event. Staff from Hangzhou Asian Organizing Committee's Operation and Security Department, Network Security Department and Information Technology Department join the training sessions in March and August 2023 to learn about printing guideline, online printing processes, consumable recycling processes and on-site operations etc. Canon also sent a team with 27 experts to 57 Asian Games venues, to ensure the status of thousands of printers and copiers, refill the consumables like tonners and ink cartridges.
Special Experience provided for Guests
In addition to equipment support for the event, Canon also prepared wonderful product experiences for audiences of the event. There is an exhibition area for sponsor companies in between Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium and the Olympic Sports Center Tennis Center, which Canon set up a “Canon Station” here with 5 special zones named “Bicycle riding area”, “Camera experience area”, “Message Board area”, “Printing area” and “Product ordering service area”. Guests can enjoy different activities among those areas, for example in “Bicycle riding area” there is an indoor bicycle riding simulator for the guest to experience. With the help of EOS R6 Mark II and EOS R8, participants can record their riding and print out with a SELPHY CP1500 printer.
For “Camera experience area”, participants can give a trial to EOS R5 with RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM, also EOS R7 with RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM and PowerShot Zoom camera. For “Message Board area”, guests can turn their favor moment to a postcard with PIXMA G580 printer, mail to their beloved one instantly.
In “Printing area”, 7 models of G series printers are demonstrated, including G3831, G3832, G3833 and G3836. Guests can experience the most intelligent printing functions including 5G connection and Cloud functionality. After experiencing different products, fellow guests can order their favor one in “Product ordering service area”. There are also 5 photography check-in points among Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium for guests to take beautiful photos, with 2 photo shoots and prints services counter for instant photo printing.
Participate in Asian Games Torch Relay
As one of the Official Sponsor companies of the Asian Games, Canon joined the 2022 Asian Games torch relay held on 8 September 2023. 7 representatives from Canon participated in the relay with smiles, showing the spirit of never give up.
