Canon Expands its Cinema Camera Range with the Official Launch of EOS C50
EOS C50
HONG KONG, 21st November 2025 — Canon today announced the new EOS C50, a highly versatile, full-frame, RF-mount hybrid Cinema EOS camera for professional videographers and agile production crews. As the smallest camera in the Cinema EOS range to date, the EOS C50 fits seamlessly into a wide variety of filming set-ups – from fast-paced shoots to large scale productions. Its compact design, however, conceals a wealth of professional capabilities.
At the heart of the EOS C50’s unique design is a new 7K full-frame CMOS sensor which, together with an advanced DIGIC DV 7 processor, delivers outstanding image quality for both video and stills – including internal RAW video recording at up to 7K 60P, high frame rate recording at up to 4K 120P / 2K 180P, and detailed 32MP high-resolution photos.
The EOS C50 is the first Cinema EOS camera to offer open gate recording, which uses the entire area of the sensor for maximum resolution and flexibility. Capturing the full width and height of the sensor using the new Full Frame 3:2 sensor mode provides a larger image that utilizes the full image circle of full-frame lenses. Open gate recording offers filmmakers greater flexibility in post-production, enabling horizontal and vertical movie formats to be freely edited from the same footage, with ample room for reframing shots. When paired with anamorphic lenses, the result is a taller image with a wide immersive cinematic look.
For videographers facing fast turnarounds, a full-angle image and a cropped vertical or square version – ideal for social media– can be captured at the same time using the EOS C50’s Simultaneous Crop Recording function. The cropped area can be shifted horizontally for optimum framing and recorded in a different format to meet delivery requirements.
Spectacular 4K Image Quality with 7K Oversampling
EOS C50 combines advanced 7K Oversampling[1] and 32MP stills capabilities, achieving crystal clear high definition 4K video. Videographers and photographers alike can take advantage of Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, offering high-speed, high-precision autofocus across up to 100% x 100%[2] of the frame. This ensures reliable subject tracking anywhere in the scene, giving you more freedom in framing and composition. Powered by deep learning, the camera now recognises people, cats, dogs, and birds[3], with advanced eye detection (right/left priority) as well as face, head, and body[4] tracking. Whether filming portraits or fast-moving animals, autofocus remains smooth, accurate and reliable.
A Unique, Versatile, Compact and Lightweight Design
Designed with a flat, streamlined body and minimal protrusions, the EOS C50 seamlessly integrates into any setup. Its light and compact form makes it easy to shoot handheld, on a gimbal, or even on a drone, giving you the freedom to build the setup that suits your creative vision.
The EOS C50’s detachable handle unit improves control and comfort. It features two full-size 3-pin XLR audio terminals and control dials for professional-quality audio recording, with an external mic. It also opens up dynamic shooting angles — from low to unconventional perspectives. As a Cinema EOS camera, the EOS C50 can be rigged up for a full production shoot as well.
In addition to native support of the diverse range of RF lenses, EF/PL lenses can be attached to the EOS C50 via the optional Canon PL-RF Mount Adapter, which can be securely fastened to the camera body, as well as a selection of Canon EF-EOS R mount adapters.
Recording & Zoom Features
The EOS C50 provides creators with smooth, accurate zoom control through both the camera body and the handle unit. Equipped with dedicated zoom levers and speed adjustment options, it enables users to fine-tune zooming for various shooting styles — from quick punch-ins to smooth, cinematic moves. When paired with compatible lenses[5], it provides precise, professional-grade zooming in a compact form.
Effortless Connection Options for Diverse Workflows
An extensive selection of connectivity options ensures that the EOS C50 meets the demands of modern professional productions. In addition to XLR inputs, the camera features a MIC terminal, Timecode terminal, HDMI OUT (Type-A) and USB (Type-C). Dual card slots for CFexpress and SD cards provide a wealth of simultaneous recording options, including different file formats, resolutions and proxy setups.
The EOS C50 supports IP streaming via Wi-Fi or Ethernet[6], delivering high-resolution video (up to 60P/50P) directly to PCs, decoders, or video sites. With built-in UVC/UAC support, it ensures smooth and reliable livestreaming for events, broadcasts, online productions, and professional workflows that demand consistent quality. The EOS C50 can be controlled remotely over Wi-Fi or Ethernet[6] using the XC protocol, supporting multi-camera operation via hardware controllers such as the RC-IP1000 and RC-IP100, as well as the Remote Camera Controller Application on a computer and Canon Multi-Camera Control on smart devices. This ensures flexible and scalable production setups, making it ideal for live events, broadcasting, and studio environments where centralized control and efficiency are essential.
Heat Management
The EOS C50 is built to perform under pressure, combining durability with an advanced heat-dissipating design. By redesigning internal airflow and adding a front air intake, cooling efficiency has been significantly enhanced compared to the EOS R5 C. Even with its compact form, this design ensures stable operation during extended shoots, delivering the durability and reliability professionals demand — all while upholding the trusted standards of the Cinema EOS line.
Suggested Retail Price
The new EOS C50 is now available for sale, and its suggested retail price is HK$25,800.
