Canon Officially Launches RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL Lens for Creating High-Quality Spatial Video to be viewed with Apple Vision Pro

HONG KONG, 28th November 2024 — Canon officially launches today the new RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL, compatible with EOS R7[1], for capturing high-quality 4K 3D photos and videos or Spatial Videos that can be experienced on Apple Vision Pro. The innovative and affordable lens weighs approx. 131g only, enabling more users to record previous moments in 3D spatial video with amazing realism.
New Addition of Spatial 3D to the EOS VR System
Equipped with dual 7.8mm lenses which create parallax, RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL enables efficient capturing of high-definition 3D photos and videos or Spatial Video with EOS R7[1]. The footages can then be easily converted into 3D Theater SBS format (Side-by-Side) or Spatial Video format[2] with EOS VR Utility[3], and into common 180° VR format[4] with EOS VR Utility or EOS VR Plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro. The user-friendly design and workflow of EOS VR System now extends to new spatial experiences.
Easily Capture Realistic 3D Stills or Videos and Spatial Video
The dual lenses capture 3D images and videos with 63° angle of view similar to that of natural human vision for easy shooting. RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL supports auto focus[5] like on regular RF lenses, through its Gear-type STM with dual-lens autofocus mechanism to drive the left and right lenses in unison. The lens also boasts a narrower baseline length of 11.8mm and minimum focusing distance of 0.15m with 0.07x maximum magnification, enabling capture of realistic 3D effect even when shooting at close range, e.g. food, handicrafts or pets.
Excellent Optics and User-Friendly Design
RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL features 9 elements in 7 groups design in each lens to create 2 images (Left and Right) with parallax on an APS-C size sensor. The effective placement of 2 UD lens elements in each lens enables shooting of high-quality 3D images over the entire screen.
“Focus/Control Ring” is incorporated for easy switching between Full-time manual focusing and Control Ring operation such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed or exposure compensation adjustment. The lens takes a conventional 58mm screw-in filter in front for quickly attaching ND filter when needed for shooting in bright daylight.
