Canon Officially launches new VR Lens for APS-C Cameras –
RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE
HONG KONG, 27 June 2024 — Canon today officially launches the new addition to the EOS VR system, RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE designed for APS-C camera[1]. The new affordable and lightweight lens weighs 290g only, it delivers high-quality imaging with easy operation. Canon hopes to make high-resolution VR content more accessible and affordable, letting a wider range of users to try 3D VR Content Creation, bringing forward VR popularization.
Conveniently Create 4K VR Movies
Equipped with dual 3.9mm fisheye lenses which create parallax like human eye, RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE enables efficient capturing of high-definition 4K 144o 3D VR footage with EOS R7[1]. The resulting data can be easily converted into 180° 3D VR movies[2] with the EOS VR Utility software or the EOS VR Plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro[3]. Its 144o angle of view makes VR shooting easier by avoiding unwanted appearance of other equipment such as tripods, gimbals or microphones in the shot. RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE supports auto focus[4] by a Gear-type STM with dual-lens autofocus mechanism to drive both left and right lenses in unison. The simple set up and workflow make the creation of VR content more straightforward and simpler even for VR beginners.
Excellent Image Quality & User-Friendly Design
RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE features anti-reflective ASC (Air Sphere Coating), which provide clean and clear images by reducing lens flare and ghosting commonly seen in ultra wide-angle lenses. By taking the full advantages of RF mount and the effective placement of 2 UD lens elements, the lens achieves a high image quality across the entire 144o fisheye image even with a folded optical path.
RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE Incorporates “Focus/Control Ring” which user can switch from camera’s menu between Focus Ring operation or Control Ring operation such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed or exposure compensation adjustment. It is also bundled with a rear filter holder that can accommodates both gelatin filters and 30.5 mm screw-in filters, a Neutral Density (ND) filter can be installed to control exposure when shooting with large aperture or help to ensure smooth video effect with a proper shutter speed even during daytime outdoor shoots.

- Innovative 11 elements in 8 groups design with 2 prisms in each lens that folds the optical path to create 2 images (Left and Right) with natural parallax of a 60mm baseline length on an APS-C sensor size
- 0.2m minimum focusing distance with a 0.03x magnification
- Simultaneously controlled Dual Electro-magnetic Diaphragm (EMD) with 7-blade ensures even exposure between left and right images
