Canon introduces new VR Lens for APS-C Camera –
    RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE

HONG KONG, 11th June 2024 — Canon today announced the launch of a new addition to the EOS VR system, RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE designed for APS-C camera[1]. Compact, lightweight and autofocus-capable, it delivers high-quality imaging with easy operation, making VR capabilities accessible to individual and amateur content creators, bringing forward VR popularization. With the introduction of RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE, Canon hopes to lower the barriers to entry and allow more creators to try creating VR content. It will open a world of possibilities for content creators to pursue unique content with new perspectives which might not be feasible previously, so they can stand out from competition and reach new audiences.

Equipped with dual 3.9mm fisheye lenses which create 2 parallax images like human eye, RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE enables efficient capturing of high-definition 4K 144o 3D VR footage[2] with EOS R7[1]. Its 144° angle of view provides high resolution 4K VR footage for immersive experience, also avoiding unwanted appearance of other equipment such as tripods, gimbals or microphones in the shot during shooting.

RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE features easy focusing, it supports auto focus[3] by a Gear-type STM with dual-lens autofocus mechanism to drive both left and right lenses in unison. The lens also allows easy conversion to common 180° VR format[4] by the EOS VR Utility or EOS VR Plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro[5], making the overall workflow straightforward and simple even for VR beginners.

RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE – Affordable Lightweight APS-C VR Lens for 3D VR Content creation

Made for: Content Creator and Photo Amateurs
Best for: 3D VR images and video content creations

    Features:

    • Affordable and lightweight APS-C[1] VR Lens in EOS VR system which weighs 290g only
    • Equipped with dual 3.9mm fisheye lenses which creates parallax to enable efficient capturing of high-definition 4K 144o 3D VR footage[2] with EOS R7[1]
    • Easy conversion to common 180° VR format[4] with EOS VR Utility or EOS VR Plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro[5]
    • The 144° angle of view makes VR shooting easier by eliminating concerns about tripods, gimbals, or microphones appearing in the image
    • Supports auto focus[3] by a Gear-type STM with dual-lens autofocus mechanism to drive the left and right lenses simultaneously
    • Innovative 11 elements in 8 groups design with 2 prisms in each lens that folds the optical path to create 2 images (Left and Right) with natural parallax of a 60mm baseline length on an APS-C sensor size
    • By taking the full advantages of RF mount and the effective placement of 2 UD lens elements, the lens achieves a high image quality across the entire 144o fisheye image even with a folded optical path
    • Application of ASC (Air Sphere Coating) on the back side of front elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting commonly seen in ultra wide-angle lenses
    • 0.2m minimum focusing distance with a 0.03x magnification
    • Simultaneously controlled Dual Electro-magnetic Diaphragm (EMD) with 7-blade ensures even exposure between left and right images
    • Newly designed removable Rear filter holder supports the use of 30.5mm screw-in filter or gelatin filter, ND filter can be used in outdoor shooting to ensure smoothness of video
    • Incorporates “Focus / Control Ring” which user can switch from camera’s menu between Focus Ring operation or Control Ring operation such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed or exposure compensation adjustment
