Canon Hong Kong Celebrates its 20th Consecutive Year of Sponsorship with Kitchee
Canon Hong Kong is delighted to announce its sponsorship for the 20th consecutive year with Kitchee - a local Premier League, who has achieved significant success on both local and international championships. The team has demonstrated outstanding performance, notably securing the Hong Kong Premier League title six times and achieving the treble on five occasions. Kitchee has been a dominant force in the league, securing over 52% of all championships in Hong Kong professional football over the past decade. In 2022, they made history for Hong Kong by becoming the first local club to advance to the round of 16 during the AFC Champions League.
Being an official sponsor for Kitchee since 2004, this partnership between Canon Hong Kong and Kitchee has gone above and beyond. “Kyosei”, which is Canon’s founding corporate philosophy, promotes harmonious co-existence. We uphold the spirit and share the same passion with Kitchee to reinforce that sports can be a common language to unite people and to build a cohesive community. Through the collaboration over the years, we have not only brought more enthusiasm to the local football scene but also made a positive impact such as charitable causes on sports and youth training programme.
As a long-standing partner with Kitchee, Canon Hong Kong is proud to be one of the sponsors of an exciting world-class event which Kitchee took on the La Liga Giants Atlético de Madrid. This friendly match held on 7 August 2024 at the Hong Kong Stadium holds great significance as it is the first match between a domestic club and a world-class powerhouse after the pandemic. Being an “M” mark event awarded by the Major Sports Events Committee, the match was a huge success with over 15,000 visitor entries recorded, further enhancing the image of Hong Kong as Asia’s sports event capital. The match has no exception to support charitable causes and contribute towards sports training and development for the next generation, which part of the admission revenue will be donated to the Hong Kong Premier League Committee of Youth Development. In addition, Atlético de Madrid also donated HK$1M to HKPL Elite Youth Development Fund to support youth football development and the U22 championship in the coming years.
Over the past 20 years, Canon Hong Kong sponsored numerous international events with Kitchee participation, such as matches with Manchester City (2019), Tottenham Hotspur (2017), Paris Saint–Germain (2014), Manchester United (2013), Arsenal (2012), Villarreal (2011), Barcelona (2007), Shanghai Shenhua (2006), Juventus (2005), New Castle (2004) and A.C. Milan (2004), spreading the charm of sports and contributing to the development of beneficiaries including Kitchee Foundation, UNICEF and United Christian Hospital Rebuild Project by admission revenues. We were also proud to witness the establishment of Hong Kong’s first football training centre to enhance community engagement through sports as well as good causes. As the partnership continues to grow, we can expect more thrilling measures from both parties to foster a strong sporting culture among the community and support local athletes in pursuing stellar achievements.
