Canon unveils the Contemporarily Redesigned Ultra High-Speed Compact Full Frame Camera EOS R8 Mark II and accessories for EOS R System

HONGKONG, 16th September 2026 — Canon today announced the launch of the new ultra high-speed Compact Full Frame camera - EOS R8 Mark II, and range of EOS R System Accessories designed for content creators. The new EOS R8 Mark II is designed for photographers and content creators who demand compactness, high speed and high precision, the new EOS R8 Mark II sets a new standard in beginner mirrorless full frame camera performance with advanced photo and video features. 

As cameras have become an important medium for self-expression and lifestyle, Canon has observed that a new generation is increasingly valuing simplicity and essence over decorative styling. This led to a new EOS R8 Mark II design defined by rational, linear forms shaped by function and structure, with refined straight lines and curves to create a contemporary look while a strong focus on ergonomics ensures a comfortable and intuitive shooting experience. 

Building on Canon’s camera design heritage, the electronic viewfinder (EVF) section of the EOS R8 Mark II introduces a modern evolution of the iconic pentaprism form. Derived from the relationship between the EVF and internal structure, it embodies both functional logic and visual elegance, becoming a new symbol of EOS design. Key controls on the top of the body—including the power switch and the Still photo / Movie shooting switch—are placed within easy reach of the right hand. Combined with the newly added Multi-controller on the rear, operation is faster and more intuitive. Continuing the EOS R-series tradition, the front grip features a signature inward-curved profile. Despite its clean and simplified appearance, the carefully sculpted front and rear grip design embodies Canon’s ergonomic expertise, providing exceptional comfort and a confident hold. 

To further enhance comfort and handling, the optional Extension Grip EG-E2, designed specifically for the EOS R8 Mark II, is also available. The EG-E2 shares the same design language as the camera body and features an angled cut on the lower right as a tribute to the EOS 650, Canon’s first EOS camera. Its form is carefully shaped to provide a comfortable resting point for the supporting left hand, contributing to a more natural shooting experience. 

EOS R8 Mark II is equipped with a high speed 24.2MP Frame Canon CMOS Sensor and enhanced 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilization¹ for the first time. EOS R8 Mark II shoots up to 40 FPS with electronic shutter11, also supports pre-continuous shooting that captures up to 20 frames before fully pressing the shutter button10, ensuring every decisive moment is preserved in stunning detail. 

EOS R8 Mark II is also equipped with multiple creative function that could satisfy the needs of the new content creating generation, adding two new color filters, “NegativeFilmtone” and “PositiveFilmtone”, and 5 different color mode in the [Handheld Night Scenes] mode.
