Organised by the Canon Hongkong Company Limited (Canon Hongkong), Canon PhotoMarathon has long been one of the most anticipated events among photography enthusiasts. The latest edition of Canon PhotoMarathon Hong Kong has just got its winners, with the awards presented at the award ceremony held today (15 December) at Canon Image2.
The five judges – Mr. Tugo Cheng, current president of Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographers (HKIPP), commercial photographer Ms. Connie Hong, wedding videographer Mr. Freddy Ma, fashion and interior photographer Mr. Harlim Djauhar Winata, and Mr. Dominic Chan, Senior Manager of Consumer Imaging & Information Group, Canon Hongkong – were all present to recognise the distinguished works of the award winners.
The tenth edition of the Canon PhotoMarathon Hong Kong took place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Wan Chai on 3 November to great success. First introduced to the city in 2009, the competition reached a new milestone this year, celebrating its tenth anniversary here and attracting more than 2,500 participants. In addition, many companies sent teams to fight for the title in the newly debuted “Corporate” category. All the participants were required to visit the designated checkpoints and take photos based on the themes announced on the spot. Two winners of Challenge Category are members of Arts With the Disabled Association Hong Kong showing off their talents through this platform.
A total of 37 awards were given out at the award ceremony. The Best of Show Award in the “Challenge” category went to Leung Wai Yum, who also won the Silver Awards in both themes “Experiencing Architecture” and “Silent”. Other than receiving a generous set of prizes, he will also represent Hong Kong to attend the Canon PhotoMarathon Asia Championship, a trip which allows Canon PhotoMarathon award winners from across Asia to prove themselves once again in challenges of various themes.
In the “Student” category, Wong Chi Yat took the Gold Award and Best of Show Award for his outstanding work in the theme “Clouds on the Horizon”. He will represent Hong Kong to attend the Canon PhotoMarathon Taiwan 2019, exchanging perspectives with other photography lovers in Taiwan and taking on new photo shoot challenges.
There were two winning teams in the “Corporate” category inaugurated this year. Accenture Company Limited, whose team composed of Chan Yiu Fung, Christopher Chan, Leung Yuen Kiu, Ng Chun Fai, Jeffrey, Tang Chi Kin, Kwok Chi Hang, is the Gold Award winner in the theme “Reflection”. The Gold Award in the theme “New and Old Hong Kong” belonged to Wait What Studio Limited, featuring team members Cheng Kai Man, Leung Yik Lun, Fung Man Lok, Wan Ka In, Tse Wing Ching, Tang Chung Shing. Both teams won a photography trip organised by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, in which they will find inspirations through the complex ecosystems and traditional festivals of Nantou and Pingtung.
All the award winners of the Canon PhotoMarathon Hong Kong were selected by a judge panel consisting of five established figures in the photography industry. Based on the criteria of creativity, composition, eloquence in colour and light, as well as relevance to the theme, they named the winning works from over 7,000 photos in contention.
