HONG KONG, 26th October 2021 — Canon announces the new compact 4K broadcast grade camcorder XF605 is now available for sale. Being the latest addition to the highly reputed XF series, XF605 inherits the sought-after features of XF705. It employs a 1.0” 8.29-megapixel CMOS sensor to realize lower noise and higher sensitivity, coupled with Canon’s high-performance 25.5mm wide angle “L” lens with 15x optical zoom and Super UD lens to ensure low chromatic aberration, true-to-life 4K UHD images with high image quality from the center to the periphery are guaranteed. The 3 separate lens rings design for focus, zoom and iris control allows for convenient operation and facilitates easy creation of the desired images with higher precision and efficiency. To meet the needs of real-time broadcasting and instant file transfer with high mobility, XF605 supports FTP transfer and IP streaming to facilitate online video streaming in real time. It also supports the new Content Transfer Mobile (CTM) application which enables instant transfer of proxy file and metadata to mobile phones via Wi-Fi or USB connections. It can also be used as a webcam, satisfying the versatile application needs. Being a broadcast grade professional camcorder, XF605 supports recording of 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) 60P 4:2:2 10-bit videos in XF-AVC format at 410 Mbps or MP4 format at 225 Mbps. 4K UHD videos can be directly saved onto SD cards, retaining the highest picture quality while making prolonged shooting convenient. In addition, XF605 supports HD (1920 x 1080) 120P 4:2:2 10-bit video shooting at 310 Mbps, facilitating the creation of versatile imaging expressions such as slow-motion video depending on themes and usages, and is ideal for shooting online and corporate promotional videos.
Large 1.0-inch 4K UHD CMOS Sensor for Low Noise and High Sensitivity Performance
XF605 features the same large, highly sensitive 1.0-inch 8.29-megapixel 4K UHD CMOS sensor as found in XF705. Benefited from the higher sensitivity of CMOS sensor, coupled with DIGIC DV 7 digital image processor’s powerful 4K arithmetic processing capacity, signal to noise ratio is greatly improved. Low-noise video with clear, sharp and smooth imagery is guaranteed even when shooting in low-light situations or at night.
Built-in Dual Pixel CMOS AF System with Advanced Focusing Features for Pinpoint Focusing
XF605 features a built-in Dual Pixel CMOS AF system to perform both imaging and phase-difference AF, realizing precise, razor-sharp focusing performance that supports 4K video shooting. Users can select focus point within 80% of screen area on the touchscreen LCD monitor, making focusing operation a breeze. Together with continuous AF and the newly added Eye, Face and Head Detection functions that bring rapid, accurate and smooth continuous focusing and tracking performance, users can rest assured that even moving subjects can stay in sharp focus at all times.
Canon 15x Optical Zoom 4K “L” Lens that Covers Scenes from Near and Afar
XF605 is equipped with Canon’s 25.5mm wide angle 15x optical zoom 4K “L” lens that harnesses the superior optical technologies from “L” series. With optimized lens configuration, the lens offers a broad focal range from wide angle to telephoto while keeping the body lightweight and compact.
With a zoom range equivalent to 25.5mm to 382.5mm in 35mm film format, spectacular wide angle shots or feature shots of facial expressions can be captured effortlessly, making the lens ideal for weddings or events shooting where a wide focal range is needed for the creation of rich and diverse imaging expressions. When shooting in HD mode, XF605 can further extend its telephoto reach to 765mm with the 30x Advanced Zoom by fully utilizing the effective pixels of its 4K UHD CMOS sensor. The lens’ focal range can also be further extended with the optional accessories WA-U58 0.8x Wide Attachment Lens and TL-U58 1.5x Tele-Converter Lens.
The lens utilizes a high refractive Super UD lens element that is commonly found in flagship model in its construction. It helps ensure low chromatic aberration, achieving high-resolution images with minimal chromatic aberration throughout its entire zoom range. Its 9-blade circular aperture is capable of producing more natural and smoother out-of-focus effect, especially perfect for taking nightscape videos where the city lights can be turned into beautiful, circular blur for easy creation of cinematic bokeh effect. The lens comes equipped with a built-in ND filter that can reduce light by three densities (1/4, 1/16 and 1/64), providing greater flexibility to shoot under different lighting conditions. Reliable and efficient operability is also guaranteed with the 3 separate lens rings design for focus, zoom and iris control.
Built-in HDR Formats with HDR Viewing Assist Function for Direct Checking of Simulated HDR Video
XF605 supports HDR shooting in HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) and PQ (Perceptual Quantization) formats, realizing better colour reproduction and a wider dynamic range that can eliminate the needs of colour grading in post-editing and is well suited for real-time broadcasting. Canon Log 3 Gamma is also supported, retaining rich image details and excellent tonal reproduction in both highlights and shadows that enable users to enjoy maximized freedom in colour grading and image fine-tuning during post-production.
Besides, with the supported HDR Viewing Assist Function, exposure can be adjusted manually or automatically to the right setting during HDR shooting. It also enables users to check simulated HDR video directly on the LCD monitor and electronic viewfinder.
DIGIC DV 7 Digital Image Processor with Enhanced 4K Arithmetic Processing Capacity
XF605 incorporates the new DIGIC DV 7 digital image processor with enhanced 4K arithmetic processing capacity, capable of depicting fine details faithfully to realize sharp and true-to-life 4K videos in rich gradation. The ultra-fast algorithm power is instrumental in bringing the best out of the camcorder’s functionalities, such as a wider dynamic range for Canon Log 3, to boost the expressive power of 4K videos. DIGIC DV 7 with drastic improvement in noise reduction realizes better performance when shooting with high sensitivity. Even in dark environment where it is hard for the human eye to verify the subject, bright, low-noise and detailed shots can still be taken by using only the faint ambient light, allowing for greater flexibility for night-time or low-light shooting.

File Transfer via FTP and IP Streaming Supported for Online Video Streaming in Real Time
In addition to transferring files via FTP, XF605 supports IP Streaming function in H.264 codec. The H.264 codec (maximum 9 Mbps / 1920 x 1080 60p) offers an efficient and reliable way to transfer Full HD videos over the internet to multiple television stations or social media platforms through an external IP encoder. During real-time broadcasting, users can check and verify the images on the camcorder’s LCD panel or through an external monitor.

XF605 features double SD card (UHS-II) slots and uses the popular and reliable SD / SDHC / SDXC cards as recording media. Simultaneous recordings of 4K / 2K videos or XF-AVC / MP4 formats are supported for easy instant video backup and meeting various output or transfer needs. The double card slots also support relay recording, a function which automatically switches to the other card for continuous recording when one card is full.
