Designed to Deliver Exceptional Details and Clarity with Beautiful Background Blur

HONG KONG, 26 September 2018 - Canon today announces the sales start of the long-awaited EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM. Being the first f/1.4 large aperture EF-M standard fixed-focal-length lens for the EOS M series digital cameras, the premium EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM delivers a stunning bokeh with a soft blurred background from its large aperture, which helps photographers better isolating their subjects. In addition, the 32mm focal length converts to approximately 51m in 35mm format, providing an angle-of-view close to the field-of-view of the human eye. Photo amateurs and enthusiasts who are passionately seeking to take their photography skills to the next-level will find this compact and lightweight lens to be a great addition with an EOS-M series camera for portraiture, candid photography or food photography.

High Quality Image comparable to EF L Lens
The EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM adopts a newly developed 14 elements in 8 groups design with a glass-molded (GMo) aspherical lens element to delivers favorable compensation for curvature of field as well as high image quality across the entire screen from the center to the edges. Also, effective placement of glass materials for correcting chromatic aberrations enables favorable compensation for axial chromatic aberrations and chromatic aberrations of magnification. This design delivers high image quality that is comparable to that of EF35mm f/1.4L II USM even at wide open aperture.

The EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM also adopts Canon’s renowned Super Spectra Coating and optimized lens placement to minimize ghosting and flare caused by reflections when shooting into backlight, ensuring excellent clarity and color balance. An optional Lens Hood ES-60 can also be attached to further enhance flare resistance.

Bright f/1.4 Large Aperture, Natural Perspective and 0.25x magnification Perfect for Stunning Portraits and Close Ups
The f/1.4 large aperture of EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM allows high quality image to be captured with significant foreground and background blur effect, beautiful and stunning portraits and close-up shots can be achieved with ease. Its 7-blade circular aperture also helps to create smooth out of focus area and soft background. The bright large aperture can also allow for a faster shutter speed to reduce subject blur and camera shakes even in low-light environment.

    ISO100∙32mm∙1/4000s∙f/1.4
Shoot with EF-M 32mm f/1.4 IS STM, it provides beautiful blurring effect in front of the subject to highlight the subject effectively.
    ISO100∙32mm∙1/500s∙f/5
Shoot with EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Kit Lens, the depth of field control is limited.

Designed for EOS M series digital cameras’ APS-C size sensor, the EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM offers an angle of view of approximately 51mm lens on a full frame camera,  provides a natural perspective similar to that of the human eyes and is perfect choice for portraits, close-up snapshots and documentary shooting. This helps to bring candid images to life, with realism and detail, as they look natural and spontaneous.

Moreover the lens features class leading 0.25x maximum magnification and 0.23m minimum focusing distance, allowing users to get closer to the subject with a strong defocusing effect of large aperture lens and create better close-up shots from a new perspective.

Compact Lens Design with Excellent AF for Photo and Movie
The EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM measures a mere 56.5mm in length and weighs only 235g, make it a perfect walk around lens for everyday shooting. It also maintains the usual Φ60.9mm outer diameter of EF-M series lens for a familiar and comfortable feel while shooting. High durability is also guaranteed with the adoption of a metal lens mount.

The EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM employs a Gear type Stepping Motor (STM) in its AF system for reduced lens size and quiet and fast focusing. Near-silent STM focusing locks on quickly when shooting still images. When shooting movies, STM focusing supports quiet and smooth Movie Servo AF for easy creation of professional focus transitions.

The lens also comes with a focusing distance range selector switch, makes it possible to switch between “0.5m- ∞” and “FULL (0.23m-∞)”. The setting can be selected according to the shooting distance, and AF operation time can be shortened by narrowing the operating range of the focus lens. A wide, tactile focus ring is also provided to enables precision focusing with full time manual focus when AF is engaged or during Manual Focus.
