Combining Bounce Flash and Wireless Flash Capabilities to Make Flash Photography Easier

HONG KONG, 25 October 2018 - Canon announces today the new Speedlite EL-100 is now available for sale. With a slim body design and weights only 190g, the Speedlite EL-100 is built-in with various advanced flash functions. The flash head can be tilted up, rotated left and right to extend the flexibility in bounce flash angle. The flash covers both Full-frame 24mm wide-angle and 50mm standard focal lengths making it suitable for most situations. Speedlite EL-100 is also integrated with optical transmission wireless flash function and can be set as either "Sender" or "Receiver" units. Whether the user is using a full-frame EOS digital camera or just a flash beginner, the new Speedlite EL-100 enhances the image quality of indoor portraits or party snapshots and creates more exceptional lighting effects.

A Compact and High Performance Flash Suitable for Everyday use
The compact Speedlite EL-100 possesses various advanced features to deliver incredible flash illumination for most of situations. The flash head can be tilted 90° upward, rotated up to 150° to the left and 180° to the right. Such flexible rotation angle makes this flash ideal for bounce flash photography. Even when using the camera in vertical orientation, the bounce flash angle can be set accordingly to suit the needs. The Speedlite EL-100 features a maximum guide number of 26 (at ISO 100, m, 50mm) and supports E-TTL II autoflash. The flash coverage supports full-frame’s 24mm wide-angle and 50mm standard focal length (2-stage zoom). When using a full-frame digital camera without a built-in flash such as the EOS R, EOS 5D Mark IV or EOS 6D Mark II and a 24-70mm or 24-105mm standard zoom lens, the flash light can be distributed evenly at 24mm wide-angle focal length without vignetting .

In addition, the Speedlite EL-100 adopts the “Quick Locking Mechanism” mounting design as found in mid-range Speedlite models. The flash can be attached or detached quickly by simply pressing the lock-release button and turning the mounting foot lock lever. Apart from the basic power ON/OFF function, the Mode Dial on the back also allows users to enable the “Camera-Linked” function and quickly set the “Receiver” group (A/B/C) of the flash during wireless flash. With a weight of merely 190g, the lightweight and slim design of the Speedlite EL-100 also makes it highly portable and easy to carry around for everyday use. It is a perfect choice for EOS full-frame camera users looking for a compact flash.

Supports Optical Transmission to Provide Flexible Wireless Flash Shooting
Speedlite EL-100 is integrated with optical transmission wireless flash function and supports both "Sender" and "Receiver" setting. Once users attached the Speedlite EL-100 on an EOS digital camera and set it as a "Sender" unit, it can wirelessly control multiple off-camera flashes[1] which are set to "Receiver" units.  On the other hand, when using another Speedlite EL-100, an EOS DSLR camera[2] with "Integrated Speedlite Transmitter" or a flash[3] that supports "Optical Transmission Wireless Flash Sender function”, users can use the Speedlite EL-100 as a "Receiver" unit in the wireless flash setting. Speedlite EL-100 makes wireless flash photography easier and brings different lighting effects to creations.

When two EL-100 are used in conjunction with both wireless flash and bounce flash technique, soft and natural image can be achieved
When built-in flash is used, unnatural and hard shadows will be created

Additional Advanced Flash Functions and New “Camera-Linked” Function
In addition to high-speed sync flash, Speedlite EL-100 also supports stroboscopic flash function which is only available to high-end flash models in the past. This function enables the flash to fire multiple times during an exposure to capture motion of a subject within a single photo. In addition, it also supports the new “Continuous Shooting Priority (CSP)” mode[4] which adjusts flash output automatically during continuous shooting. The maximum number of flash count is often limited by the flash recharge time during continuous shooting. By using a compatible camera with “CSP [4]mode” enabled, the camera automatically increases the ISO sensitivity to allow reduced flash output, so that the recharge time can be shortened to increase the number of flash count during continuous shooting.

Speedlite EL-100 also supports the new “Camera-Linked” [5]function including the “External Flash Power On/Off with Camera Power” and “Auto flash firing” to provide easy control of the external flash. “External Flash Power On/Off with Camera Power” function 5 allows Speedlite EL-100 to automatically switch on or enter sleep mode according to camera power status. “Auto flash firing” function 5 allows Speedlite EL-100 to act similar to a built-in flash and the camera can control the flash firing automatically based on the lighting condition of the environment. Users can concentrate on photo shooting and let the camera to control the flash firing when necessary when the lighting condition is constantly changing.

The new Speedlite EL-100 (bundled with a Speedlite soft case and a mini-stand) is now available for sale and the suggested retail price is HK$1,480.
