Canon Launches New PowerShot SX70 HS Digital Compact Camera

    HONG KONG, 29 November 2018 - ​Canon today announces the launch of PowerShot SX70 HS Digital Compact Camera, offering 21mm1 ultra wide angle 65x optical zoom lens and 0cm Super Macro shooting, which is ideal for capturing high quality images from close proximity to the far horizons. Coupled with latest DIGIC 8 digital imaging processor, 4K UHD movie shooting2 with support of Digital 5-axis IS and Dynamic IS and built-in Wi-Fi for remote shooting and supports automatic image transfer to PC3 or smartphones4 features, PowerShot SX70 HS is the perfect camera for a variety of telephoto subjects including sports, astronomy, travel, wildlife and birds, allowing users with different hobbies to create high quality photos and movies with a handy gear.
     
    Powerful 65x superzoom and easy super telephoto image composition with Zoom Framing Assist
    PowerShot SX70 HS equips with a powerful 65x optical superzoom (21-1365mm)1 lens, in which the 21mm wide angle end allows easy capture of wide open landscapes, while the 1365mm super telephoto end can capture far away subjects flexibly in brilliant details and allow for more versatile framing. Furthermore, an impressive 2730mm equivalent focal length can be achieved with Canon’s “ZoomPlus” functionality, ideal for capturing distant scenes from afar. In addition, PowerShot SX70 HS also supports 0cm Super Macro shooting for capturing close-up shots of tiny objects with incredible details, allowing users to take photos from a whole new perspective. This camera tackles the needs of both distant and close-up shooting and enables users to capture versatile subjects flexibly.
     
    The camera also newly features “Dual Sensing IS” which calculates and analyzes the amount of camera shake not only from Gyro sensor of lens’ IS unit, but also utilizing the image information collected from CMOS sensor’s, enables an Optical Image Stabilizer (IS) with 5-stop5 shake compensation, an approximately 1.5 steps increase from previous model, provides optimal compensation that effectively reduces image blur caused by camera shake during telephoto shooting to ensure sharp images.
     
    To make photo composition easily during super telephoto shooting, PowerShot SX70 HS comes with the handy “Zoom Framing Assist” function. When a subject goes out of the frame during super telephoto shooting, simply hold down the “Seek” button and the camera will quickly zoom out to help relocate the subject. During the process, you can adjust the focal length by using zoom lever to determine the final composition. And with the improved “Zoom Framing Assist Lock” function, the camera will use image stabilization techniques to lock onto and automatically track a subject, help keeping them in the center of the frame until you're ready to capture the ideal close-up shot.
     
    In addition, you can activate the “Enhanced Auto Zoom” function by a quick press of the “Seek” button when taking portraits, the camera will lock the subject with AF frame and maintain the same subject size by auto-zooming based on the size selected from Face, Upper Body or Whole Body by users. This can ensure simple and convenient framing when taking portraits.

    Continuous shooting performance greatly improved by latest DIGIC 8 digital imaging processor
    PowerShot SX70 HS features latest DIGIC 8 digital imaging processor, by combining its strong processing power with HS SYSTEM technology and a 20.3-megapixel high sensitivity back-illuminated CMOS image sensor, the camera offers vivid and delicate images. Benefited from DIGIC 8’s high algorithm speed, PowerShot SX70 HS supports high-speed continuous shooting of up to approximately 10 FPS (One-Shot AF) or 5.7 FPS (SERVO AF) and offers low-noise image quality and responsive performance to meet the needs of shooting in different scenarios, especially for speedy moving subjects.

     

    UHD 4K movie shooting evokes extensive movie shooting creativities
    With DIGIC 8’s processing power, PowerShot SX70 HS newly supports UHD 4K movie shooting2 up to 3840 x 2160 resolutions, a quadruple of Full HD resolutions, and at frame rates of 29.97p or 25p. With its 120Mbps bit-rate MP4 format, users can shoot high quality UHD 4K movies with lightweight gear. To further enhance movie shooting stability, in addition to Dynamic IS that can reduce shakes caused by handheld shooting at wide angle, a Digital 5-axis IS and Auto Level function are also featured to correct more violent shakes. Steady movies with perfect level are guaranteed even when shooting while walking. In addition to the built-in stereo microphone, the camera also features an external 3.5mm microphone jack for easy creation of high-quality movies with both fabulous sound and visual.
     
    A “4K Frame Grab” function6 is also added, users can extract a selected frame in-camera as a 8.3-megapixel JPEG image from the UHD 4K footage taken, ensuring easy capture of important moments in both movies and high-quality images. UHD 4K and Full HD Time-lapse movie function is also added, enabling easy capture of stunning day-to-night natural or cityscape time-lapse movies in ultra-high UHD 4K resolution when travelling through selection of pre-set scenes or simple manual settings. 

     

    Built-in Wi-Fi/ Bluetooth Connectivity for easy remote shooting, image management and sharing
    PowerShot SX70 HS features built-in Wi-Fi for wireless remote image and movie shooting as well as image and movie browsing and transfer to smartphones via “Camera Connect” app, making image and movie sharing to social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram or YouTube simple. A Wi-Fi button can be found on the body, providing one-press access to the Wi-Fi menu for convenient and streamlined connection. The latest “Transfer images to smartphones when shooting” is also supported, the camera will automatically send images to a smartphone via Wi-Fi in parallel when shooting, facilitating easy image browsing or sharing with friends during the course of shooting. All new images shot can also be backed up to the computer automatically and wirelessly when at home through the latest “Automatic sending images to computer”  function via “Image Transfer Utility 2” computer software, the transferred images can then be uploaded to cloud storage automatically for more comprehensive and convenient image management experience. 

     

    In addition, PowerShot SX70 HS supports Bluetooth® low energy technology for more convenient and continuous connection between the camera and Wireless Remote Control BR-E1 or smartphones7 at low power consumption for wireless remote shooting from any direction within 5m from the camera. Furthermore, shooting location can also be appended to images by acquiring GPS information from smartphone via Bluetooth connection. This makes it easy to geotag images, create travel blog, as well as checking in to a location when uploading images to social platforms.

     

    Latest CR3 & C-RAW formats supported for enhanced shooting performance
    PowerShot SX70 HS is the first digital compact camera to incorporate the latest CR3 RAW format and C-RAW compact format. The standard CR3 RAW format is similar to the CR2 RAW format of previous model except that the data storage method is enhanced following the evolution of the image processing system. The C-RAW format, with file size approximately 40% smaller than normal RAW, gives a boost to the camera’s continuous shooting performance and increases the number of RAW images captured in one continuous shooting.
     
    Diverse shooting modes including Panoramic Shot to enrich imaging expression
    In addition to Aperture Priority (Av), Shutter Priority (Tv) and Manual (M) exposure shooting modes, PowerShot SX70 HS also features a range of shooting modes to expand the range of imaging expression. With the “Panoramic Shot” mode, dramatic panoramic shots of the sky and sea, high-rise cityscape or nature can be captured simply by holding down the shutter button and panning the camera. Other shooting modes include “Food” mode for shooting bright and colorful food photos effortlessly and “Self-Portrait” mode with smooth skin and background defocus functions. The camera also features series of Creative Filters, including Miniature Effect, Fish-Eye Effect and Toy Camera Effect, for simple creation of versatile and funny shots.
     
    Built-in high-resolution Electronic Viewfinder and vari-angle LCD for easy framing
    PowerShot SX70 HS is equipped with a 0.39” 2.36M-dot high-resolution electronic viewfinder with approximately 100% coverage, empowering users to shoot with confidence even in bright or dark environment with detailed and bright display throughout the entire visible area that exhibits a wide variety of color gamut and high contrast.
     
    In addition, the 3-inch 922K-dot vari-angle LCD monitor which can be opened sideway and rotated 270° to offer even greater framing flexibility. Not only convenient for self-portraits, high or low angle shooting, the monitor also makes it easy to shoot from a low angle with a portrait orientation, providing a high level of framing flexibility for both photo and movie shooting.

    2 4K shooting takes place by cropping pixels from the center of the image sensor
