Canon Launches New EOS C300 Mark IIIProfessional Interchangeable-Lens 4K Cinema Camera
Comes Equipped with Dual Gain Output CMOS Sensor and Supports 4K High Frame Rate Shooting
Canon Hongkong announced the launch of the new EOS C300 Mark III professional interchangeable-lens 4K camera, a new product of the video production Cinema EOS System that realises a high dynamic range by adopting a newly developed Dual Gain Output (DGO) CMOS sensor and supports 4K/120p high frame rate recording. Satisfying the diverse expressive techniques required in the creation of professional content as commercials, motion pictures and documentaries productions.
This new model is the successor to the EOS C300 Mark II (released in September 2015), which has been well received in various shooting fields such as video and broadcast production. In addition, enhancing the basic performance from the existing model, the EOS C300 Mark III utilizes a modular design like the EOS C500 Mark II (released in December 2019). This allows users to customize the camera to their shooting environment, catering to a large variety of production scenarios.
A Variety of Video Expressions for Professional Video Production
With the newly developed 4K Super 35mm Dual Gain Output CMOS sensor (DGO sensor), the EOS C300 Mark III is able to shoot 4K/60p footage with extremely high dynamic range and low noise in DGO Mode. The new sensor reads out each photodiode with two different gains. It combines the two with saturation prioritizing gain for bright areas, and a lower noise prioritizing gain for darker areas. The new sensor is capable of dynamic range in excess of 16 stops.
EOS C300 Mark III incorporates DIGIC DV 7 digital image processors with enhanced 4K arithmetic processing capacity, capable of depicting fine details faithfully to realize sharp and true-to-life 4K videos in rich gradation. The ultra-fast algorithm power is instrumental in bringing the best out of the camera’s functionalities, such as the 1Gbps recording bit rate and Canon Log 2 Gamma that realizes a wide dynamic range of 16 stops, for higher levels of image quality and performance to boost the expressive power of 4K videos.
Canon Log 2 Gamma and Wide DR Gamma for enhanced dynamic range
EOS C300 Mark III features Canon Log 2 Gamma function with over 16 stops of dynamic range and Log 3 Gamma function with 14 stops of dynamic range for selection to retain rich image details and excellent tonal reproduction in both highlights and shadows. In addition, the Wide DR Gamma option can suppress brightness in over-exposed areas to maintain seamless and rich gradations from highlights to shadows. It can achieve a wide dynamic range of 800% without the need for post-production, preserves original colors and is especially useful in maintaining the same skin tone color for portrait shooting.
Supports Cinema Raw Light Video Formats for Recording Flexibility
EOS C300 Mark III features Canon’s Cinema RAW Light format for 4K (4096 x 2160) 10-bit up to 120P or 12-bit up to 30P recording with up to 2.1Gbps recording bit rate. A Cinema RAW Light file is about 1/3 to 1/5 the size of standard RAW file, while maintaining the same high resolution, high color reproducibility and wide dynamic range data to provide dramatically greater freedom in post-production. Cinema Raw Light emphasizes on the best possible image quality with manageable data rates, while XF-AVC (Intra Frame) is ideal for broadcast content and other quick turnaround projects which require faster workflows while maintaining high image quality. Both Cinema RAW Light and XF-AVC can be recorded to the onboard CFexpress Type B Cards, allowing for flexibility without the need to change media.
Built-in Dual Pixel CMOS AF and advanced focusing functions for enhanced focusing performance
EOS C300 Mark III features a built-in Dual Pixel CMOS AF which makes use of a CMOS sensor with a new structure to perform the functions of both imaging and phase-difference detection autofocus. It supports smooth continuous AF when used with all Canon EF lenses. An expanded focusing area which covers 80% of image on screen can be selected, ensuring sharp images even for 4K shooting which demands extreme focusing accuracy. Users can also choose the subject for focusing with the tap of touch screen, it helps to make focusing intuitive. The camera also supports Face Detection AF function when used with EF lenses to ensure sharp capture of moving subject.
EOS C300 Mark III also features the upgraded built-in Dual Pixel Focus Guide to bring a more powerful manual focus function. The screen mark can directly indicate the front focus and back focus and the new focus pre-set feature can select separate predetermined focus points and move focus from one mark to the other by pushing the SET button.
5-axis Electronic Image Stabilization System for All-Direction Image Stability
EOS C300 Mark III is equipped with 5-axis Electronic Image Stabilization System for effective correction of camcorder movements across 5 axes, high level of image stability is guaranteed in all situations. Furthermore, Image distortion can be substantially reduced, ensuring exceptional video performance even shooting with a lens without image stabilizing function.
Outstanding expandability and Excellent Operability for Versatile Use
EOS C300 Mark III features a modular design with handle and monitor being removable units to accommodate different situations and production needs flexibly with the desired configuration. From special shooting needs such as single operator style, multi-camera, gimbal and drone to full-scale cinema camera operation, these enhanced expandability options allow the EOS C300 Mark III to support a wide range of shooting needs. Users can change the lens mount of the EOS C300 Mark III from an EF mount to an EF Cinema lock mount or PL mount by themselves using a mount kit (sold separately) to further expand their lens choices.
Built-in ND filters for versatile imaging expressions
EOS C300 Mark III features in-camera 2-stop, 4-stop, 6-stop, 8-stop and 10-stop ND filters, providing greater flexibility when shooting outdoor. This enables the use of a large aperture even in bright outdoor environment to create shallow depth of field and images with a high level of detail.
Large size High-Resolution LCD touch panel for Flexible Multi-Angle Shooting
EOS C300 Mark III features a large 4.3" 2,760,000-dot high resolution LCD touch panel, able to choose focus point with a touch. The new LCD hinge attachment unit offers flexibility by allowing rotation of the LCD touch panel monitor to different positions and angles during shooting. With High resolution LCD touch screen monitor, Dynamic range can be set to 400% or 1600%, and a more accurate LCD monitor provides an improved rendition of the HDR image for the user. Waveform Monitor can also be outputted through LCD touch panel to read the overall brightness of the image.
Double CFexpress 2.0 card slots and SD card slot (UHS-II) for diverse recording options
EOS C300 Mark III features two CFexpress card slots for high-speed recording of high-quality, massive 4K Cinema RAW Light data with the triple speed of CFast card. In addition, the camera is also equipped with SD card slot. Simultaneous 4K RAW (Double CFexpress 2.0 card) and 2K proxy (SD card) recording is supported for easy instant video backup and recording of videos in different formats for different output needs such as offline editing. The double CFexpress card slots also support relay recording - a function which automatically switches to the other card for continuous recording when one card is full.
Seamless Experience from Shooting to Output and High Compatibility with Professional Production Workflow
Users can enjoy a seamless and highly efficient experience from shooting to output with EOS C300 Mark III. With the 12G-SDI terminal, videographer is able to view 4K video on 4K display with just one SDI cable for better handling at shooting sites. Different assist displays such as Peaking and Waveform Monitor can also be outputted to an external monitor through MON and HDMI terminals to making filming easier. In addition, Canon provides XF Utility software for 4K video capture and playback, as well as Cinema RAW Development software dedicated for Cinema RAW format for RAW data preview and output, simplifying image editing procedure with enhanced post-production workflow by providing efficient adjustments on white balance, ISO, brightness and sharpness for 4K RAW videos and exporting as international standardized DPX or ProResfile format.
 Excluding manual-focus EF Cinema lenses.
