    Canon Hong Kong continued its 4th year support to the “Step Out Blue House” Charitable City Orienteering Competition for Heritage Conservation 2018

    Canon Hong Kong (Canon HK) continued its support to “Step Out Blue House” Charitable City Orienteering Competition for Heritage Conservation 2018 for consecutive 4 years, a fundraising event to support the cultural preservation and community engagement. The event theme this year was “Back to 80s”, showing Hong Kong’s unique local culture from Canton pops songs, films and street food to restore the glorious era of Hong Kong in 1980s.

    On 25 November, the competition was successfully completed with 458 people participated and around HK$240,000 has raised. Participants have to form a team of 2-4 people and either join “Group Run”, “Corporate Run” or “Family Run” for the parents and kids to explore the city and experience their parents’ growing stage together. Within 150 minutes, all teams are required to travel 10 out of 20 checkpoints around Wan Chai according to their own planned route. In each checkpoint, special challenge is given for participants to gain maximum of 10 scores. Teams whom get the highest accumulative scores from 10 checkpoints will be awarded. Through orienteering the checkpoints & accomplish the challenges, not only the collective memories in 80s’ could be restored, but also to let participants understand more about 80s’ and thus to extend the Hong Kong spirit.

    Being the Photo Shoot & Print Service Sponsor, Canon HK provided the professional instant photo shoot & print service to all participated teams upon their return to the finish point. A total of 239 photos were printed with participants’ smiling faces for their memorable moment sharing.​​

    Established in 1949, St. James’ Settlement is a multi-social service charity organization providing comprehensive services for over 3.2 million needy people every year in HK. There are altogether 58 service points in various districts of Hong Kong with a broad spectrum ranging from community support to residential care.​​​

    ​​About Blue House Cluster​​
    ​The Blue House Cluster, composed by three tenement blocks in Wan Chai (Blue House, Yellow House, Orange House), is located in Stone Nullah Lane, King Sing Street and Hing Wan Street representatively. In 2006, Hong Kong Government announced a redevelopment plan of the Blue House Cluster. Under the cross-aspects involvement made by Wan Chai residents, St. James’ Settlement and other community cultural concern organizations, "Viva Blue House" Project, the conservation & revitalization project of the Blue House Cluster, was finally approved to implement under the mission on "retention of both the residents and the buildings". Until 2017, the Project has been officially finished and won the Award of Excellence in the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation 2017.
