Canon announces new firmware version 1.2.0 for EOS R
with AF tracking added to “Eye Detection AF”

HONG KONG, 28 Mar 2019 – In response to the needs of Canon EOS R’s users, Canon announces a new firmware upgrade for EOS R in specific to enhance Auto Focus functions of the camera. The new firmware version 1.2.0 adds Servo AF abilities in both “Eye Detection AF” and “AF Frame Size: [Small]” functions and will be available to download from Canon website in mid-April, 2019.

AF Tracking ability added to “Eye-detection AF”

In the new firmware version 1.2.0, “Eye-detection AF” function will be available in “Servo AF” or “Movie Servo AF” settings. This function helps to track and ensure subject’s eye is continuously in focus during photo and video shooting. When EOS R is used with large aperture lenses, such as RF 50mm f/1.2L USM in a move or to shoot a moving subject, “Eye-detection AF” function will be able to keep the subject’s eye in focus for a crispy clear portrait shot.

“AF Frame size: [Small]” during Servo AF and Movie Servo AF becomes possible

In addition, “AF Frame size: [Small]” option will also be upgraded to be available in “Servo AF” or “Movie Servo AF” settings. This allows a more accurate focus when tracking smaller subjects.

The firmware upgrade version 1.2.0 will be available to download for free from Canon website in mid-April, 2019. Canon will continue to listen to feedback from our customers and enhance the development of EOS R system to meet photographers creativity needs.
